Review: Nokia Lumia 800

I’ve been an iPhone user since the 3G and when my iPhone 4 was broken I had a good look at the market to see what was available and a bit different to the rest of the competition.  In this search I came across the NOKIA LUMIA 800, which although ran Windows Phone 7, brought me back to the early 2000′s and my appreciation of great build and design in a phone.  So from a Twitter request a week later I had one in my hands for a couple of weeks, here are my thoughts.

When the remake of Hawaii 5-0 first aired last season it was all about the iPhone.  The iPhone 4 popped up in scene after scene shooting photos, on FaceTime, messaging and more.  This season however it seems the 5-0 crew has made a move.  A move to Windows.  In addition to other hardware, Windows Phone 7 handsets are popping up all over the show and in last night’s episode the team referenced “Sky-Drive” by name on several occasions.  In one such scene Danno took some photos at the home of a murder victim and was told by McGarrett to upload them to the team’s “Sky Drive.”  If you’re unfamiliar with Sky Drive think of it like a built in Drop Box like service on Windows phones.  Later in the episode the team mentioned the photos again and reference Sky Drive as well.  Looks like the Windows team is getting some product placement on one of CBS’s hit shows.

You know what’s cool?  When companies update their products after listening to customer feedback.  That’s just what the Primary Case Company has done with their Paradox Case.  The all new Paradox Case 2 is a synthetic leather holster that works with virtually any smartphone on the market.  Thanks to a fully adjustable design the case can be resized on the go to accommodate smaller phones like the iPhone 4 or larger ones like the Samsung Infuse.  If you own more than one phone, perhaps a Blackberry from work but an iPhone for personal use and are looking for one solution to protect and transport them both – the Paradox Case 2 might be your answer.  Check out the video above we did detailing all the features of the Paradox Case 2.

The Paradox Case 2 is currently available directly from the Primary Case Company’s web site for $39.99.

Paper Toss will long remain one of my favorite games for the iOS platform.  Windows Phone 7 users can now enjoy a really advanced version of the game thanks to A Trillion Games and their release of 3D Paperball.  The game features 3D physics, a rich environment, multiple shooting styles, endless gameplay and the ability to compete in a global leader board.  The goal of the game is still to flick a paperball into a trashcan but this version doesn’t have the fan which players of the original version will remember.  You can bounce the ball against other objects to redirect it or shake your phone to slam the ball into the bin which leads to bonus points and amusing visual effects.

You can download the game for free from the Marketplace by clicking here.

To view a preview of the game head in past the break.

Until I discovered just how awesome the Callpod Chargepod was during CES 2011 I had no idea what I was missing.  With a family of 5 going on vacation means a lot of mobile devices.  When we travel you can count on us having, at the very least, three iPhones, two iPod touches and an iPad.  Finding 6 outlets in a hotel room to charge each of them up overnight sometimes proves to be a challenge.  That was the case until I grabbed a Callpod Chargepod.  The device, which looks like an octopus, plugs into a single wall outlet.  Each of its 6 “legs” are custom tips which you select based on your inventory of devices.  Then you’re able to recharge 6 devices at the same time using just a single wall outlet.  The Chargepod is compatible with 3,000+ different devices.

Right now you can save 30% off your Chargepod by using the promo code “CALL678″ at checkout.  But hurry, this deal ends June 15th.

Leather holsters are a popular way of carrying mobile handsets and for good reason.  They are most often times a blend between sophistication and protection.  The problem with them, however, is just like the cell phones they are meant to transport, no two are alike.  With technology changing as often as it is many of us are upgrading our mobile phones on a yearly basis.  If you’re one of those people who use a leather holster that means you probably have to upgrade it every year as well to allow for the new size and shape of your new device.  There are even those of us who own more than one mobile device.  A Blackberry from work during the week but an iPhone of our own on the weekends for example.

There are tons of leather holsters on the market which claim to be “universal.”  The problem with them is that in order to be able to claim themselves as such they have to be extra big.  In order to fit a device as small as an iPhone 4 yet as large as an HTC EVO 4G these “universal” holsters have to leave enough room left over that when a smaller device is placed inside it’s swimming in excess room.

What if there was one universal leather holster that was adjustable allowing it to fit virtually every mobile device on the market perfectly?

Now there is.

Looking for a new game for your Windows Phone 7 handset?  A Trillion Games just announced the launch of their newest title – Race and Battle.  The game combines elements of racing as well as strategy.  In the game you maneuver radio controlled cars which are armed with rockets around a miniature track.  You can play the game solo or against a friend, on the same device.  Race and Battle is available via the Zune Market Place here.  There’s a free trial of the game available and when and if you’re ready the full version sells for 99 cents.  Both downloads are available here.

Check out the game’s trailer after the break.

Being a Windows Phone 7 user there’s at least one downside.  Just like Android we have to wait for our carrier of choice to release the update for our WP7 Phones. The wait could be days or even weeks.  It’s all up to the carrier. But there’s now a way to get your updates much quicker than having an unlocked sim free phone.

This is a risky process and one which brings a chance of your phone becoming bricked.  But for the lucky ones it brings the already released pre-NoDo (7008), NoDo (7355), NoDo update 1 (7389) & NoDo update 2 (7390) all in a single-update. The creator gives detailed instructions on how to use this fangled update, and it seems to go well from what I’ve heard through the grapevine. Having updated to NoDo recently myself I don’t see the need to use this but my friend has on his personally owned HTC 7 Mozart and it seemed to go quite well.  The update went quick and most importantly it didn’t brick his phone.

As said, this is for the very brave to do, to find out more, head on over to the source.

When you buy a phone you normally buy a case for it.  Usually it’s one which is made of silicone or plastic designed to protect the sides & back of the device.  You hardly see people using a full cover/case, such as the PDair Leather Flip Case. This case is designed to hold the HTC 7 Trophy comfortably and securely offering full protection to the back of the device, and allowing easy access to all the buttons/ports around the device. The case is made from leather with a padded hard lining inside, with leather covered metal handles which hold the device secure in the case. The front is held on by a button which uses magnets to hold it in place.
