This rumor has been spreading like wild fire and it sounds like it is going to be true. Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3 will feature a new service called Call Of Duty Elite.  Elite will allow customers to gain access too extra stat-tracking and downloadable map packs. The features of Elite are being described as just like the stock market. You can track players, individual performances in matches and specific weapon types being used.

Map packs will come  at no extra charge for those using the Elite service but for those who are not you will most likely pay the typical $10.00 for a new map pack. With that being said it is unknown how competitive the pricing of Call Of Duty Elite will be. Activision has not announced any prices yet regarding this new service.

I don’t think I’m the only person wondering how the customers are going to react to this extra charge. It would be really hard to start charging all the customers a new fee on top of there xbox live subscription fee. However Activision has said that the typical basic service will stay free. So for the users bothered by this whole idea you will still be able to get the typical features at no extra cost for now.

When I read about this it did not surprise me as Halo has offered a service just like this for a long time. I think it is an advancement to the Call Of Duty industry. I am not saying I am a fan of paying extra but I believe that get what you pay for and as long as something is free it can’t get any better because there is no funding. People are always saying they wish they would add new guns or more maps but people don’t realize that the $60 we pay for the game doesn’t go as far as they think. They have to pay the people who helped make the game possible and then on top of that they have to pay to maintain a network and servers. It isn’t cheap and it isn’t free so a monthly subscription fee will help add capital to Activision’s funds and this will allow them to add on more exciting content to our games.

I believe the pricing of this new service will be reasonable and not excessive as Activision has never done this and they really are testing out the waters with this subscription service. We will keep you updated as news comes in about pricing and features of Call Of Duty Elite.

Sony Announces New PSP Bundle

In perhaps what is an attempt to sell off some more PSP systems before the release of the NGP Sony has come out with a new PSP Bundle. It includes the PSP-3000 system in piano black, a 2GB memory card, and 2 full games: Gran Turismo and MLB 11 the Show. It’s going to retail for $159.99 or $30 more than the stand-alone system and hit store shelves this June. Sony claims that the bundle gives a $39 savings over buying the system and the components stand-alone. If you need a portable system, Its a good time to buy one, otherwise wait a few months for the NGP.

Long Live the PSP®go!

Long Live the PSP®go!

Well, sort of. Technically, yesterday’s report of Sony killing off the PSPgo is true… in Japan. Gaming news site EuroGamer is reporting Sony has issued a statement regarding the status of PSPgo production:

“It is a very exciting time for PlayStation portable devices. Before the end of the year we are launching NGP, our next generation portable device, which we believe will revolutionise portable gaming. In the meantime, the current generation of PSPs continue to be in demand, especially since the introduction of our value for money, Essentials range of games and we will continue to meet that demand.”

So there you have it. The PSPgo is not dead. Yet. Thanks again to EuroGamer for the update!

PSP®go -ing, Going, Gone.

PSP®go

It’s official. The PSPgo is dead. Sony Japan has declared “shipment ended” for the handheld console on their website. However, Sony does say that they will continue to produce the PSP-3000 for the foreseeable future. Given the recent buzz surrounding Sony’s upcoming NGP (Next Generation Portable), the news isn’t that surprising. What I do find surprising is that they’re canceling the PSPgo and not the PSP-3000, the older of the two consoles. I still don’t understand why Sony insists on hanging on to the UMD distribution platform. The PSPgo disc-less, download-only strategy really appealed to me, and seems to be a much more forward-thinking plan. Have Sony execs ever heard of Apple’s App Store or the Android Market?

Sony PSP Go! Hits New Price Low

I’m always looking for bargains, but this one really blew me away. With the up coming release of the PSP2 we’ve seen many stores around the world slash prices of the PSP Go! console, including reputable retailers such as Amazon.co.uk who are selling the PSP Go! for a brilliant £147.91 including Free delivery.

It amazes me that we have the chance now to buy a great portable console for such a low price.  Taking into account the PSP 3000 is going for even cheaper now is a good time to grab yourself a good console for those portable gaming moments where you’re not so much a fan of the Nintendo line-up. Other stores around the web are selling the PSP for less, but taking into account Postage & Packing, then our 20% VAT on top, it seems Amazon.co.uk are the best price at the moment for a brand new PSP Go!

PSP drops to $129.99

In a recent blog post, Sony revealed that, after selling over 67 million units worldwide, the price of the Playstation Portable (PSP) is dropping to $129.99 MSRP (as of February 27th). This price point is now significantly less than Apple’s iPod Touch, so it should be interesting to see if this causes any shift in consumers’ buying habits.

In addition to the price drop, new titles were added to the “PSP Greatest Hits” ($19.99 each) and “PSP Favorites” ($9.99 each) line-up of games. For a full list of games and more information, check out this blog post.
