Never Forget

It’s 8:46 AM EST.  That’s the moment five hijackers crashed American Airlines flight #11 into the World Trade Center North Tower on this day, ten years ago.

You won’t see any other posts from us today here on Run Around Tech besides this one.  We ask that you take the day, or at the very least a moment, to reflect on those we lost the day which would become the most tragic day in our nation’s history.  I personally hold a special place in my heart for the 343 firefighters who lost their lives that day but also remember the others who perished, both the heroes and the innocents as well.  I hold hope for those who are still alive today and still being effected by the tragedy ten years later and I hold hope for those who lost loved ones, friends and family on that day as well.  May they continue to heal.

No more words.  Observe today in whatever manner you see fit.  Just please – don’t ever forget.

As proof that not all Star Wars’ Stormtroopers are evil, take Jacob French.  The Australian has set out to walk around 3,000 miles, from Perth to Sydney, dressed as a Stormtrooper.  French plans to walk around 25-30 miles per day in the effort, which he says is to raise money his charity, The Starlight Children’s Foundation.  His goal is to raise around $53,000 over the journey which should wrap up sometime this November.  French is a member of the 501st Legion, a worldwide “army” of dress-up Star Wars fans and first wore the costume to run a half marathon last October.

The Google Maps street view picture above shows the scene in front of the house where I grew up.  My mother still lives there.  But that’s not what’s interesting about this address.  What is interesting is the street view image of my mother’s neighbor’s house.  The house to the right.  So walk with me just a few feet down the road……

The USB Pet Rock

ThinkGeek.com sells the weirdest, most obscure tech products out there.   So it is no surprise to me that you can purchase a rock that plugs into your computer via USB.  Although completely useless, the USB Pet Rock is a must have for any computer user who loved the original Pet Rock of the 1970′s.  In case you were not around during the pet rock phenomenon, let me give you  the lowdown on this fad.  An advertising executive from California named Gary Dahl came up with the idea to sell people a pet that was easy to clean up after and never misbehaved.  The pet was a rock.  According to Super70s.com, Dahl first had told his friends about his pet rock in which his friends at first thought he was crazy.  But they soon realized the idea of a pet rock was a good one.  Dahl then put together a Pet Rock Training Manual.   Some of the topics included: “How to make your Pet Rock roll-over and play dead” and “How to house-train your Pet Rock.”   I am sure Dahl had no idea how successful his pet rock idea would become.

Check out this awesome homemade cake YouTuber uncletone99‘s mother whipped up for his birthday this past weekend.

Not only did “mum” get the iPhone’s icons in the proper position on the cake’s home screen but she even added much of the detail in each icon.

Major points for mom and a sweet Happy Birthday for Tony.
