Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3 ToHave A Monthly Subscription Fee?
This rumor has been spreading like wild fire and it sounds like it is going to be true. Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 3 will feature a new service called Call Of Duty Elite. Elite will allow customers to gain access too extra stat-tracking and downloadable map packs. The features of Elite are being described as just like the stock market. You can track players, individual performances in matches and specific weapon types being used.
Map packs will come at no extra charge for those using the Elite service but for those who are not you will most likely pay the typical $10.00 for a new map pack. With that being said it is unknown how competitive the pricing of Call Of Duty Elite will be. Activision has not announced any prices yet regarding this new service.
I don’t think I’m the only person wondering how the customers are going to react to this extra charge. It would be really hard to start charging all the customers a new fee on top of there xbox live subscription fee. However Activision has said that the typical basic service will stay free. So for the users bothered by this whole idea you will still be able to get the typical features at no extra cost for now.
When I read about this it did not surprise me as Halo has offered a service just like this for a long time. I think it is an advancement to the Call Of Duty industry. I am not saying I am a fan of paying extra but I believe that get what you pay for and as long as something is free it can’t get any better because there is no funding. People are always saying they wish they would add new guns or more maps but people don’t realize that the $60 we pay for the game doesn’t go as far as they think. They have to pay the people who helped make the game possible and then on top of that they have to pay to maintain a network and servers. It isn’t cheap and it isn’t free so a monthly subscription fee will help add capital to Activision’s funds and this will allow them to add on more exciting content to our games.
I believe the pricing of this new service will be reasonable and not excessive as Activision has never done this and they really are testing out the waters with this subscription service. We will keep you updated as news comes in about pricing and features of Call Of Duty Elite.

Review: Nintendo 3DS Ultimate Starter Kit

Maybe I’m jaded from the price of iPhone and iPad accessories, but when I saw the Ultimate Starter Kit from Rocketfish for the new Nintendo 3DS, I was highly skeptical. $30 for all this? Surely this stuff must be crap, right? We’ll see…
Nintendo 3DS Un-boxing

I’ve finally been bitten by the Nintendo bug and decided I wanted one of the new 3DS handhelds. After watching all the promo videos and reading about the feature set, I needed one of these little buggers. Of course, I finally reached this conclusion Saturday, March 26th – just one day before the system went on sale. I went to my local GameStop, only to find out they would only be getting enough units to fulfill their existing pre-orders. However, I could pre-order one and be guaranteed to get one when their next shipment arrived next Friday. Pfffff. It’s launch day or nothing, baby. That’s how I roll. (Sad, but true)…
Ngmoco Boss Slams Handheld Consoles

During a recent interview with Industry Gamers, the head of mobile game publisher Ngmoco, Neil Young, threw out some harsh words about current and upcoming handheld gaming devices. When asked about Sony’s efforts in the space, Young said “I think PSP is done and the new [NGP] is dead on arrival.” But he was a little more hopeful of Nintendo, saying “I think Nintendo will likely be competitive. My personal opinion is that the 3D piece of the puzzle is kind of gimmicky.”
Young believes smartphones are eating away at the dedicated handheld gaming console market, almost to the point of them being an unviable product to bring to market. “It’s really difficult to compete with an app store that has hundreds of thousands of applications and a wide range of options where the average price paid is around $1.20 and there are tens, if not hundreds of thousands of free applications that are really high quality,” said Young.

Netflix Coming to Nintendo 3DS

At their keynote for the Game Developers’ Conference, Satoru Iwata (president of Nintendo) unveiled that an upcoming software update (May?) will bring Netflix streaming services to the 3DS handheld. Don’t worry, the movies and television shows will be in streamed in 2D, but Nintendo does promise to toss in some 3D movie trailers once in awhile. Coinciding with the Netflix announcement, Iwata also stated this software update will allow 3DS users to connect to over 10,000 AT&T wifi hotspots across the U.S for free.
As a really nice gesture to all you non-GDC attendees (myself included), Nintendo has posted video of their entire keynote online – check it out here.
3DS Going, Going Gone in Japan

Nintendo’s Japanese launch of the 3DS this weekend went pretty much as expected – virtually all stock (estimated to be about 400,000 units) was obliterated in less than 24 hours. If you didn’t pre-order the handheld, chances are you didn’t get one. Despite the quick sellout, Nintendo does say they will be shipping out more units “soon”, with some Japanese retailers taking another round of pre-orders for shipments estimated to arrive in the next day or two.
With the impending North American launch on March 27th, we’d strongly suggest getting those pre-orders in now.
Disney Ramping Up Summer Game Releases

This summer will usher in several huge (or even bigger), highly anticipated sequels to major Disney properties. Both Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Cars 2 are set to receive game releases coinciding with their respective movie launches.
