Review: Spigen SGP Ultra Hybrid Case for the iPhone 5

The Spigen SGP Ultra Hybrid is the company’s newest offering for the iPhone 5.  The Ultra Hybrid is a clear back case that allows you to show off the back of your iPhone 5 yet still keep it protected while doing so.  The Ultra Hybrid features TPU sides for a touch of color as well.  If you want to change things up a bit the Ultra Hybrid case comes along with swappable back cards which totally change the look of your case in a matter of seconds.  Add in the fact that Spigen includes one of their awesome Steinheil Ultra Crystal screen protectors as well in a case that’s priced under $15 and you’ve got a pure win.  Don’t take my word for it though.  Check out my full review and see for yourself.

Inside the packaging you’ll find the case along two back inserts, a certificate of authenticity and a single crystal clear screen protector.

Here’s what Spigen has to say about the Ultra Hybrid Case for the iPhone 5.

SPIGEN iPhone 5 /5S Ultra Hybrid case is a bumper case that protects the back of the device as well. The soft TPU is wrapped around the side of iPhone to provide excellent protection and grip. The transparent back panel clearly shows the back of iPhone to still expose the Apple logo. SPIGEN Ultra Hybrid is a stylish bumper case with full protection.

  • Combination of TPU and Polycarbonate = Full protection all around the device
  • Advanced Shock Absorption Technology: Air Cushioned 4 corners
  • Scratch-Free Design: The lips on both front and back protect the screen and the back panel from scratches
  • Stylish bumper case with back protection + Ultra Crystal Screen Protector
  • Compatible with iPhone 5 (2012) / iPhone 5S (2013)

SpigeThe Spigen Ultra Hybrid case is available in two colors.  You can choose from Black or Gray.

Before using the Ultra Hybrid Case be sure that you completely remove the clear plastic protector which covers the entire back of the case.  The back of the case is clear and completely see through.  Soft, flexible TPU sides add a touch of color to the case.

Installation is as simple as popping your iPhone 5 into the case with the button side first and then pushing the remaining portion of your phone inside.  The Ultra Hybrid Case doesn’t offer much in the way of “lay-on-the-table” protection, so it’s a good thing Spigen includes the screen shield.

Once installed on your iPhone 5 the Ultra Hybrid Case yields full access to all of the ports and controls.  Along the bottom of the case you’ll find three individual cutouts, one for the microphone, another for the Lightning port and a third for the headset jack and speaker.

Both the volume buttons and the sleep/awake button get covered by the case.  The built in buttons that replace them are soft and cushy, offering a good amount of tactile feedback when pressed.

On the back of the case a single, small pill-shaped cutout gives way to the rear facing camera, LED flash and secondary microphone.  The clear back of the case allows to you show off your Apple logo in true fanboy style.

The included optional back cards can be installed into the case to change up your look as well.  You can also choose to create back inserts of your own by following a simple template.

The Spigen SGP Ultra Hybrid case is a must buy.  It includes everything you could want in the perfect iPhone case.  It’s affordable.  It has the ability to go clear and show off your phone or change things up and insert a backplate to go with a more traditional case look and it includes a screen protector.  All this for a case priced under $15 seems to good to be true.  However, this is reality.  Seriously, go order one of these Spigen SGP Ultra Hybrid cases now.

Any flash reflection issue for the cover? I noticed that the edge of the camera hole isn’t black and can reflect flash light.
