Review: PureGear DualTek Extreme Shock Case for Samsung Galaxy S4

Got the hottest phone to hit the mobile market right now?  The Samsung Galaxy S4 is selling well and is poised to challenge other popular smartphones for a place atop the podium.  If you’ve picked one up and need a case that offers maximum protection it’s time to check out the PureGear DualTek Extreme Shock Case.  We’ve looked at this case for the iPhone 4/4s here and the iPhone 5 version here.  In both “cases” we were impressed with the protection offered.  Does the DualTek Extreme Shock Case offer the same features for the Galaxy S4 as it did for the iPhone?  You’ll have to read my full review to find out.  Be sure to check out the video at the end of the review as well.

Read on through for my full review.

Inside the packaging you’ll find just the case.  No other extras come along with it.

Here’s what PureGear has to say about the DualTek Extreme Shock Case for Samsung Galaxy S4.

When bump, smack, strike, hit, whack, knock, bang unexpectedly come into play, DualTek® provides the best in extreme shock protection.

  • Shock Absorbing Corner Impact Protection controls shock by isolating vibration
  • Durable Layered Materials combine strength, toughness and flex
  • Slim & Sleek Design provides stylish impact protection without the added bulk
  • Ergonomic Grip designed for a secure yet comfortable grip of your phone
  • Warning: Choking Hazard – Small parts. Not for children under 3 yrs.

The PureGear DualTek Extreme Shock Case for Samsung Galaxy S4 is available in five different colors.  You can choose from Black, Pink, White, Yellow or Blue.

The exterior of the case is made from durable polycarbonate.  It features special reinforced corners for impact and rubberized accents for grip.

The inside of the case is soft and cushy thanks to a liner made from rubberized TPU.  There’s plenty of cushion inside for absorbing impact.

Pop your phone into the case by placing the top half in first, then pushing the bottom in after.  It’s a tight fit, which is a good thing.  There’s no chance of this case coming off when you don’t want it to.

Once on your phone you’ll still have access to all of the S4’s ports and controls.  On the bottom of the case there are two cutouts.  One for the microphone and another for the Micro USB port.  Along the left side the volume rocker gets replaced by soft, rubberized buttons which give off a good amount of feedback when pressed.  The same holds true for the opposite side of the phone where the power button gets a similar covering.  On the top of the case you’ll find a large cutout for the headset jack.

The back of the case features cutouts for both the speaker as well as the LED flash and camera.  The colored polycarbonate is very glossy and is sure to take on some scratching, but better it get scratched than your phone.

The reinforced corners of the case are meant to take the brunt of any massive trauma, like when you drop your phone.  They’re cushy and soft, almost like little pillows placed at the corners of your phone.

This case offers plenty of “lay on the table” protection thanks to the lip, which come up higher than the screen of the phone.  This way, if you were to place your phone, screen side down, onto a flat surface, the case’s lip would make contact with the surface before your phone’s screen did.

If you’re someone who’s tough on your phone, you drop it often, leave it laying around, let small children play with it etc. having a protective case is great way to safeguard your investment.  The PureGear DualTek Extreme Shock Case for Samsung Galaxy S4 offers a good amount of protection from drops and dings thanks to a sturdy design and reinforced frame.  While it lacks screen protection, it does offer “lay on the table” protection.  The case comes in 5 different colors and the glossy finish looks great.

Excellent review, but I have a question, how hard exactly is it to remove the case? Because I read some Amazon reviews complaining that it broke their phone removing it
