Cases that rotate and allow you to stand up the iPad in either the portrait or landscape position are rare. I can count the number I’ve reviewed on one hand. The Marware Axis Case for the iPad Mini has staked its claim as a member of the small group of cases that do so and is the first such case for the iPad Mini that I’ve seen period. The Axis cases comes in five different colors and features a genuine leather finish. Want to see how the Axis performs? Read on for more.

Inside the packaging you’ll find just the case with short instruction manual. No extras are included and this is pretty much the norm when it comes to iPad Mini cases.
Here’s what Marware has to say about the Axis Case for the iPad Mini.
The Marware Axis iPad mini case is a high-quality, genuine leather folio case that revolves around your device. The Axis rotates your iPad mini 90 degrees so you can stand, type, read or watch it in the horizontal or vertical position. With three hands-free viewing angles, you’ll never have to strain your neck again. The automatic sleep/wake lid powers the Apple iPad mini display on and off, while an interior hand strap provides a comfortable grip. Experience a new way to enjoy your new Apple tablet with the Marware Axis case for the iPad mini. It’s more than a case.

- Convenient elastic strap holds lid open/closed
- Allows access to all ports, buttons and speakers
The Marware Axis Case for the iPad Mini is available in five different colors. You can choose from Blue, Tan, Purple, Black or Red.
The exterior of the Axis has a stitched design that runs along both the front and the back of the case. The leather is soft yet feels very protective thanks to the padding inside.
The interior of the case has been lined with a soft micro fiber material in order to protect that iPad Mini. A snap on the back style case is ready to receive your iPad Mini.
Simply snap the Mini inside. It’s a very tight fight and I did find it a little difficult to free the iPad Mini from the case. However, better it be a tight fit than a loose and the iPad Mini fall out. Once installed the Axis case does yield access to all of the iPad Mini’s ports and controls.
A single cutout along the bottom opens up for the speakers and lightning port. On the right side another single cutout does so for the volume buttons and mute/orientation switch. Along the top you’ll find notches cutout for the sleep/awake button, microphone and headset jack.
The inside of the front flap of the case features a hand strap so that you can hold your iPad Mini with one hand.
To stand the iPad Mini up you first release the snap on the back portion of the case with a snap.
Then you’re able to prop up the iPad in one of three landscape angles.
But the Axis doesn’t stop there. Rotate the case into portrait mode and you can stand it up in another three angles.
On the back of the case a round cutout allows the rear facing camera to remain open. There’s also an elastic strap which can be used to keep the front flap closed when you’re not using the Mini. Because of the way the Axis case works it comes off a little thicker than some iPad Mini cases. But that’s part of the sacrifice one has to pay for a case that rotates into 6 different angles.
The Axis case does work with the iPad Mini’s auto sleep/awake feature so that when you close the case’s front cover the iPad turns off and when you open it the iPad Mini turns on.
