Review: stm bags Nomad Medium Laptop Shoulder Bag

DSC_0001

These days when I shop for a gear bag I’m looking for something that’s different.  While I appreciate the functionality of my black ballistic nylon backpack, for every day use I want something different.  Messenger bags have often been my favorite style of bag due to their larger open interior which allows me to dump everything I need with me inside. One of stm bags newest offering, the Nomad Laptop Shoulder bag arrived a few days ago and I’ve been putting it through the paces.  That’s code for “using it as my daily gear bag.”  How did it perform for me?

Inside the packaging you’ll find just the bag.  But don’t let that fool you.  Included inside the Nomad is one of stm’s medium laptop sleeves.  In the case of the medium Nomad, what you get is a sleeve that holds up to a 15″ laptop.  I love the fact that the laptop sleeve is removable.  This means I’m able to take it out on days when I don’t need to bring my computer along.  This lightens my load but still gives me the option to pack my computer should I need to without switching bags.  There is also a smaller version of the Nomad to accomodate 13″ laptops.

Here’s what stm bags has to say about the Nomad Medium Laptop Shoulder Bag.

The idea for a nomad came to us because as bag customers we have a weekend bag, a travel bag and a daily bag. Seemed like a lot – even for us. Enter the nomad. A messenger style silhouette designed to be an all-purpose traveling bag. Use it for your daily work commute with the included 15″ laptop sleeve or remove the sleeve and take it on all your adventures cross town or further afar. If you are one of those tourists we see shooting video with your iPad in Times Square, there’s a secure pocket for up to a 10″ tablet, too. more

The stm bags Nomad Medium Laptop Shoulder Bag is available in three different color options.  You can choose from Mustard, Graphite or Bondi Blue.

The Nomad is made from 300x300D water resistant santori.  It’s very light weight.  The inside of the bag is lined with 200g nylex, 70D cross hatch nylon.   Even when fully loaded with my gear I found the Nomad very comfortable slung over my shoulder.

What struck me right away about the Nomad itself was the shear amount of pockets the bag has.  Seemingly endless pockets!  If there’s one I thing I like in a bag it’s the ability to keep things organized.  The Nomad has plenty of pockets to keep things separated and neat.

The adjustable shoulder strap is padded and can be sized using the cam adjustor for a custom fit.  It’s one of the most comfortable straps I’ve worn.

A large zipper runs along the back side of the bag.  This opens and allows you easy access to the main portion of the bag without unhooking the front flap.  A nice and most welcomed feature for sure.

A special tablet pocket inside was the perfect spot for my iPad mini.  It’ll accomodate most any 10″ and under tablet.

Even the front flap has a pocket along the front which has dividers inside for keeping organized.  My only complaint about the Nomad is it had a tendency to flap over forward when there’s no laptop in the back holding it down.  Since most of the other pockets are in the front of the bag this seems unavoidable for those who don’t carry a laptop every day.

The front flap can be held securely closed with two metal buckles.

The shot above is everything I carry on a daily basis.  I was able to fit it easily inside the Nomad with plenty of room to spare.

I found the stm bags Nomad to be both lightweight and comfortable to wear.  It easily stored all of my daily items and did so in a manner that allowed me easy access.  With tons of pockets I was able to properly organize my items into a manner which allowed me to know exactly where each thing was at any time.  With a stylish modern look and three bold colors to choose from the Nomad should appeal to most anyone who carries a gear bag.
