I decided to throw up a quick post about this bug because I’m now effected by it. So far it’s been hard to narrow down what the cause of it is but it appears to be linked to iPhoto 9.4 (which updated the same day that iOS 6 and OS X 10.8.2 came out). The bug effects the syncing of both Events and Faces from iPhoto on the Mac to iOS devices via iTunes.
Essentially when I connect any one of my iOS devices to iTunes and browse to the Photos Tab I see my Albums, Events and Faces. Problem one is that the Events are listed in Chronological order even though in iPhoto the are sorted Alphabetically. That’s only half the problem though. In addition to showing all my Events in the Events windows I also find tons of random events that don’t exist in iPhoto. Most of these are named with only a date and very few if any have photos in them (as seen in the photo above.) The ones that do have photos in them have photos that were in my iPhoto library at one time but have long since been deleted.
Faces is where the other part of the bug resides. In the Faces section of Photos in iTunes I find Faces to sync for people who are not in the Faces section of my iPhoto library.
This bug is incredibly annoying as it has made both syncing my photos as well as sorting through them on my iOS devices very difficult and I hope Apple fixes it soon.
If you’re also effected by this issue be sure to let me know in the comments. There is a discussion about the issue going on in the Apple Forums as well.
