So you’ve set up your Twitter, added a bio, location, and started to tweet. Now you just want to tweet from your iPhone. But wait, there are 100′s of apps to choose from. Some are well known for their simplicity, others for their design. Either way, this handy rundown will have you tweeting from the best client with just a download.
Read on for more.
1st Place: Tweetbot - $2.99
Tweetbot, arguably one of the best Twitter clients, is a robust app with many features, including gestures. Swipe to your left to reveal tweet details and replies. Swipe right in the mention’s tab to present the conversation leading up to that tweet. Tweetbot is configurable to all of your needs. Triple tapping can result in a reply, retweet, or favorite. Tap a tweet once or hold down for a few seconds for even more choices. Optionally, sound feedback is available for each tap. With sync via Tweet Marker, you can pick up where you left off on any other Tweet Marker supported app.
Options include choice of URL shortener, image/video/text uploader, mobilizer, read later, and sync. Also available is an iPad and soon a Mac application.
2nd Place: Twittelator Neue - $2.99/Free
Twittelator Neue is gorgeous. If you’re looking for a beautiful Twitter client, this one’s for you. Boasting the Helvetica Neue typeface, Twittelator Neue is clean and simple. Photos are shown in timeline right under the tweet. If you are interested in the photo, simply tap and up comes the full picture. Swiping will switch between timeline, mentions, profile, and more. Holding down on a tweet allows the user to retweet, favorite, or reply the tweet. Again, functionality includes images/video uploader, read later, and Tweet Marker. You can also connect to Facebook through the app to allow your tweets to be published to your Facebook timeline.
Unfortunately, Twittelator Neue lacks in speed, but makes up for it in eye-appeal. At times, a relaunch of the app is needed for your timeline to refresh. However, Twittelator Neue is still a very valuable contender if looking for a beautiful Twitter app.
3rd Place: Twitter – Free
Twitter is the only app so far on the app store to feature Twitter’s new “Connect” and “Discover” tabs. Connect is especially helpful because you are able to view favorited tweets, replies, and retweets. Discover features trends, who to follow, and top stories. This is also where you search. While this native Twitter client is clean, fresh, and reminiscent of twitter.com, it lacks tremendously in services. With only options for your image/video, and read later, it lacks where the other apps make up. Despite where the Twitter app falls short, Twitter is free and is not ad-supported — something that very few free apps can boast.
Regardless of what client you end up choosing, you are still essentially accessing the same social network. If you’re a casual tweeter and read tweets when you some time to spare, the Twitter app is perfect. If you crave a beautiful app with many options, and have some patience, Twittelator Neue is for you. However, if you want the ultimate Twitter client, with gestures and a tremendous amount of options, go with Tweetbot. So, out of these three, which is your favorite? Vote in the poll or leave your favorite Twitter app in the comments.
