SPIGEN’s Linear series of cases initially started as 3-piece case which incorporated a frame similar to Apple’s Bumper case combined with a backplate to give full protection. When it first launched it was available in a variety of frame colors and your choice of a clear or color backplate. Now SPIGEN has expanded on the lineup incorporating various designs and patterns to really give the case an edge in terms of looks. One example of this is the Clockworks which has various components of a clock or watch etched into the backplate to really make your iPhone pop. Is this another winner from SPIGEN?
Read on to find out.
Inside the packaging similar to most of SPIGEN’s products, you’ll find the case along with a screen shield, cleaning cloth, and a logo protector for the back. If you’ve seen or used the Linear series in the past you’re probably familiar with it’s 3-piece design. 2 that go around the edge of the phone and lock together creating a bumper, and the backplate that slides onto the back for protection from scratching. Once you have it all together it feels really nice in the hands. The curved edges make it comfortable to hold and I find it easy to grip as well.
The design on the back is definitely the highlight of this case. It’s very intricate and looks nice. A small detail they’ve also added is that some of the portions are on the the side of the backplate the that touches the phone and others on the top edge. It ends up giving it a 3D effect which only adds to i’s uniqueness. Combined with the gold frame it looks elegant and the design will pop even more on a Black iPhone as opposed to the white.
A couple problems still remain with the case. First is that the headphone jack is on the small side. Some headphones will fit, but not all. The dock connector also can’t accommodate thicker connectors. If you use the original cable then it’s fine. Also the backplate on my piece wasn’t as tightly held in as other versions of the Linear I’ve tried.
Overall, the Clockworks is another excellent version of the awesome Linear Series. The design is eye-popping and looks really nice. It’s also a quality case with nice attention to detail. I have no problems recommending this case to anybody who wants something unique and stylish.
