iOS App Review: Tiny Wings 2.0

Tiny Wings is back with version 2.0, or rather, “Chapter 2,” of the already addicting game!  The extremely popular iOS app received an update early last week to launch “Chapter 2.” The simple game consists of tapping the screen at certain moments to let your bird fly downhill, and release uphill. The goal of the original game was to go as far as possible before night struck. In the new iteration, you now verse other birds in 15 levels across three islands. Ultimately, your bird challenges three other birds for the best fish.

Read on for more.

There are now many more obstacles to face, mainly water and occasionally difficult mountains to overpass. Every now and then, your bird will hit a flower and sky rocket into the air.

Since the original game has been out for over a year, the update has given a new excitement for an old game. As the levels progress, the other birds get faster and the levels get harder. Towards the end of island 2, it can become difficult to stay in first place. However, once you master Tiny Wings, you can go back to Chapter 1 and beat your previous high score!

The graphics on this game are stunning. Version 1 already packed retina graphics, so not a huge update in this category, but the developer took the time to skillfully craft each and every level. Everyday, however, the levels will look different due to procedural generated graphics — a very nice touch. The background music can be soothing at times.

The best part about this update is that it was free! No need to buy a new game, simply head on over to the App Store and pick up the update.

One feature would be nice in a future update: the ability to play multiplayer. Currently, the other birds are computer generated, so having the ability challenge your friends would be a welcome feature.

Tiny Wings 2.0 is available for both the iPod Touch/iPhone and iPad, for $0.99 and $2.99, respectively.

MSRP:  99 cents/$2,99

PROS:  Refined visuals.  Simple gameplay.  More levels to come.  Syncs cross-platform

CONS:  No multiplayer.  So far only 15 levels.
