Review: TwelveSouth BassJump 2
Since the release of the Compass stand for the iPad, TwelveSouth is becoming one of my favorite companies to purchase accessories from for my Apple gadgets. Their products are very well designed, and perfectly match the elegance in design to Apple products. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a review unit of the BassJump 2 Subwoofer. Did the subwoofer make a significant difference in the sound to be worth the price?
Read on to find out.
In the package of the BassJump 2, you will receive the subwoofer, a micro-USB to USB cable, and a carrying case. If you haven’t seen TwelveSouth packages, they are simple and very well put together.
With the BassJump 2, I did notice a significant sound difference in my music. As expected from a subwoofer, the BassJump 2 gives your music a deeper and richer sound, versus the flat, crisp sound built into the MacBook Air, and MacBook Pro’s. The BassJump 2 isn’t as powerful as larger subwoofer’s, but for it’s size it gets the job done quite well. Not only was the sound it produced elegant, but the actual design was incredible too. On the unit there is only one input slot, and that is for the mini-USB to USB cable that connects to Mac.
I would like to add that the only hardware difference between the BassJump original and the BassJump 2 is the slight increase in decibels of volume. With that being said, a large portion of the upgrades come with the updated software which is available as a free download on TwelveSouth’s website. The software is required in order to get the BassJump 2 to work on your Macintosh system.
Once it has been installed, and your system has been rebooted, you will find the settings for it in your System Preferences. I really enjoyed the customization that TwelveSouth brought with the updated software. The preset sound settings were great, but it was really nice to be able to play around with the sliders to see what type of volume and sound frequency really coped well with the type of music I was listening to.
TwelveSouth is still yet to disappoint me, as I immediately fell in love with the BassJump 2. Listening to the standard MacBook Pro speakers is no longer even a thought in my head without the BassJump 2. It sounds well, and it’s portable, so it always finds it’s way into my laptop bag when I travel. I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking to improve your computers sound quality, your audio that surround sound feel.
