Review: SPIGEN SGP Ultra Thin Air for iPhone 4/4S

We all know SGP for their great screen shields like the Ultra Crystal and the all new GLAS.t, but they also make some really great cases. One of those cases is the Ultra Thin Air, a slim snap on back cover as the name would suggest. I always love thin cases like this since they give some protection while still keeping the form factor of the device. So what did I think of SGP’s version of this case?

Read on to find out.

When you take the case out of its packaging you’ll find the case itself along with one of SGP’s amazing Ultra Crystal shields and a small logo protector for the back of the phone since the Apple logo is cutout. The case itself sports a glossy finish, which I’m not a fan of since they gather fingerprints and grease easily. The top and bottom are fully cutout like most other snap on cases so you won’t have issues with headphones or cables not fitting. The volume buttons have 3 separate cutouts and are easily accessible and the vibrate/ring switch cutout is big enough to accommodate any variation of the iPhone 4 or 4S. The back has a camera cutout with a flash ring to prevent any flashback problems and the Apple logo shines through as well.

Just like most other SGP cases, fit and finish is great. The case snaps on easily but sits really tight on the device which ensures that it won’t come off easily. There are no rough edges or flash (manufacturing defects) either which gives it a nice cohesive look. My only real complaint is the glossy finish, it isn’t  slippery so the phone slips out of your hands, but after using the phone for sometime it looks dirty and I found myself wiping the case down a lot. Thankfully SGP does make a matte series of the case which doesn’t have the problem. The case doesn’t take away from the form factor of the iPhone at all, while you do notice the little bit of added thickness, its not that much.

Other than the super glossy finish, the only complaint I have is that there really isn’t much of a lip so I wouldn’t feel safe putting my phone face down on a table. Whether or not that’s a deal breaker or not is up to you. Otherwise quality is excellent too, I never felt the case was flimsy or that it would break easily, which is what you want in a minimalistic case like this.

Overall the Ultra Thin Air has become one of my favorite cases for the iPhone 4/4S because it has all the qualities I want in a case at a great price. If you like keeping the form of your iPhone but want some protection to keep it safe, this is the case to get. You get an excellent case along with an awesome Screen Shield as well. If you’re looking for a slim case, the Ultra Thin Air should be on the top of your list.
