If you’ve got an iOS device hopefully you’ve got Dragon Dictation installed. The app which turns what you say into text is a must have for any iOS user. SpeechTrans, which is now available in the iTunes App Store, wants to join that list too. The application, which is powered by Nuance’s voice recognition technology takes what you say and translates it into one of 9 different languages. The app recognizes your speech from Spanish, French, German or English and then can translate it back into English, Spanish, French, Italian, German Portuguese, Russian and Polish. The app offers both male and female voices for its translator and promises lifetime free upgrades when more languages are added.
The app will run you $19.99 up front but includes 400 pre-loaded transcriptions. After you’ve used them all up you’ll have to purchase more as an in app purchase. But if does offer free unlimited Text to Speech translations. If you’ve got friends on Facebook that speak different languages SpeechTrans can help with that too. It offers a Facebook chat feature which allows you to speak one language and have the app translate what you said into a Facebook chat in another language. You can also choose to email or text audio recordings limited to 55 seconds.
Being that it uses Nuance’s technology we’re sure it’s going to rock. SpeechTrans says you should expect 95% accuracy!
