Rearth makes some very unique cases for the iPhone.  Their Ringke case is still one of my personal favorites.  I’m still not even sure what it’s made from but the special material is soft yet sturdy and best of all attracts zero lint while still sliding in and out of pockets with ease. Two of the company’s newest models, the Slim and the Steel are also among my  personal favorites when it comes to stylish yet protective cases for the iPhone.  I reviewed the Ringke Slim back in December and will be reviewing the Ringke Steel shortly.

You may have heard of Samsung’s Galaxy Note, a hybrid of a tablet and phone which offers a massive 5.3″ screen. Packing an HD display and a stylus called the “S-Pen”, the Note is definitely one of the most stocked Android phones to date. It’s finally made it to the US carriers bringing with it LTE on AT&T’s network.  I recently decided to pull the trigger on one. What do I think of it so far?

Review: Instacast for iOS

12:00 pm - Posted by Lee

If like me, you are addicted to podcasts, then Instacast could be the perfect app for you.  Instacast offers app subscriptions and a great UI.  On first start up you are presented with your list of available podcasts.  For each one it shows the number unplayed, nothing over complicated and it’s obvious how to use it straight out of the box.  You can re-order by holding and dragging up or down and at the bottom you have access to adding a new podcast or the app settings.

Read on for more.

Ballistic Cases makes some of the more protective cases for the iPhone 4/4s.  While at CES last month we picked up one of their Shell Gel cases to review.  The Shell Gel seeks to strike a careful balance between maximum protection and little bulk.  It’s the first case that I can remember reviewing which offers three different layers of protection, TPU, silicone and polycarbonate.  The Shell Gel series case is available in six different color variations for $34.99.  How did the case perform?  Hit the jump to check out my video review.  When you’re finished watching head to the Ballistic web site here to learn more about the case.

With more and more states in the U.S. introducing hands free laws having an in-car speakerphone system just makes sense.  Not to mention that fact that it’s simply flat out stupid to use your phone while driving regardless as to whether or not your state declares it legal to do so or not.  As a firefighter I can tell you from personal experience just how dangerous texting or dialing from your mobile phone while driving can be.  I previously reviewing JABRA’s Freeway in-car speakerphone and walked away super impressed.  So much so that it not only replaced my car’s built in Bluetooth system but still remains in my vehicle doing so today.  When JABRA offered up a review sample of their newest in-car speakerphone, the Journey, I jumped at the chance to review it.  The Journey, which at first glance appears to be a little cousin to the Freeway, not only handles telephone calls handsfree but also supports wireless playback of your music thanks to A2DP.  The Journey does’t stop there though.

How did the Journey stand up to my personal testing?  Read on to find out.

Review: TwelveSouth BassJump 2

12:00 pm - Posted by Keyur

Since the release of the Compass stand for the iPad, TwelveSouth is becoming one of my favorite companies to purchase accessories from for my Apple gadgets. Their products are very well designed, and perfectly match the elegance in design to Apple products. I was fortunate enough to get my hands on a review unit of the BassJump 2 Subwoofer. Did the subwoofer make a significant difference in the sound to be worth the price?

I don’t get the chance to review many tablet accessories, other than those meant for the iPad.  So when Blurex reached out to me to see if I’d be interested in reviewing their Asus Transformer Prime tf201 case and offered to supply me with a Transformer Prime to test with it, I happily agreed.  The Blurex leather case is sophisticated and functional.  Just the two qualities I look for in a case.  It features the ability to operate in four different stand angles and has all the cutouts you’d expect a good quality case to have.  Don’t take my word for it though.  Hit the jump to see my video review of the Blurex case.  Then head here to learn more.

It was just a year ago that I officially launched Run Around Tech.  In our first year the site has already managed to exceed my expectations.  We’ve written over 1,450 posts of which 437 are reviews.  That’s more than one new product reviewed each and every day!  And that was always my goal – to make technology easier for you, the reader, to decipher.  I know there are a ton of products out there and choosing which one best suits your specific needs is tough and often challenging.  I hope our reviews make selecting that case for your iPhone or your next pair of headphones just a little easier to do.

I owe a special thanks to Marc, who not only has become a friend, but my “go-to” person for behind the scenes work on the site.  Without him the site would simply cease to exist.

We’ve also got some great writers who have stayed the course and continue to add new and interesting content to Run Around Tech.  Thanks to Roger & Sahil for all of their contributions.  Zach has taken on the role of news editor and I greatly appreciate his help deciphering what often seems like an endless amount of press releases that get sent to us.

Lee and Keyur, haven’t been with the site long but have already made an impact with both reviews and commentary.  I really appreciate having Lee “across the pond” to offer perspective from someone not in the U.S.

Our “new guys”, Mike and Doug, who I’ve known for a while outside of Run Around Tech, are welcome additions and we look forward to their contributing more over the next year.

While Chris doesn’t write a ton a reviews, when he does write one, boy does he write one!  His reviews are some of the best on the site and we look forward to another installment from him soon.

We also owe a special thanks to all the companies, PR firms and other manufacturers who have sent us product to review over the last year.  Obviously without product to review and show off to you the site simply would not work.

But most of all I personally want to thank you – our readers.  Thank you for sticking with us over the last year.  Thank you for retweeting our posts on Twitter, sharing our articles with your friends and family and liking us on Facebook.  We hope to see more of you over the next year!

It’s hard to believe it’s been a full year since the site started but I guess the expression “time flies when you’re having fun” fits.  That’s just what Run Around Tech is to me, fun.  Here’s to another fun year and many more to come after that!
